CORE TECHNOLOGY 01 · THE ARRANGER · FOR SONGWRITERS

Write the song. Hear the band.

Made for songwriters and lyricists. Type your chords, write your words under the bars, and a six-piece band plays your song back in your key and at your tempo. No instruments to load, nothing to set up: just your song.

MADE FOR SONGWRITERS

You bring the song. The band brings it to life.

Most music software asks you to become an engineer before you hear a note. The Arranger starts where songs start: with words, chords and a feeling.

SONGWRITERS

Hear the song, not just the chords.

Strumming alone only tells you so much. Type the progression and hear it with drums, bass, piano and strings, so you know right away whether the chorus lifts.

LYRICISTS

Your words, with music under them.

Write your lines under the bars and try chords from your key one at a time. The band plays each one, so you can hear which one fits the words.

SINGERS

A band to sing with, any time.

Set the key that suits your voice and the tempo that suits the song, then sing over the band and record a demo you can share.

YOUR FIRST SONG IDEA

From a lyric to a song idea, in minutes.

  1. 1

    Pick a feel

Choose a sound bank and load a preset: a whole band, ready to play, in one click.

  2. 2

    Type your chords

Type them, or pick them from the chords of your key. Verse, chorus and bridge, bar by bar.

  3. 3

    Write your words

Your lyrics go under the bars, right where they are sung.

  4. 4

    Press play and sing

The band plays your song. Sing over it, change a chord, hear it again.

NO HEAVY SETUP

Nothing between you and the song.

An idea doesn’t wait. With the Arranger there is nothing to install, load or connect before you hear it, so you can catch the song while it is still fresh.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Your chords
  • Your words
  • Your voice, if you want to sing

WHAT YOU DON’T

  • Instruments to find and load
  • Drum beats or bass lines to program
  • Routing, mixing or plugins
  • A MIDI keyboard

THE CHART

A lead sheet, not a studio session.

You write the song the way songwriters always have: sections, chords and lyrics, bar by bar. The band, the effects and the rest of the studio all read it.

Sections

Intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, outro or any name you like, each from 1 to 64 bars. Add, rename, move and remove them as the song grows.

Chords on and off the beat

Put a chord on any beat, or push it: on the “and”, an eighth early, or on a triplet. The grid goes from one chord a beat to sixteenths and triplets.

A chord picker that never chooses for you

It shows the chords of your key in musical order, from I to vii, and how each one relates to the chord before. You choose; it never fills in a chord or ranks them.

Every chord you need

Majors, minors, sevenths, sixths, suspended, diminished and augmented chords, added ninths and elevenths, altered dominants and slash chords such as G/B.

Lyrics on the chart

A lyric row under every four bars, so the words sit with their chords. Hide them when you only want the chords; they are kept.

Transpose and key changes

Move the whole song to a new key in one step, and the studio’s key moves with it. Or move one section on its own for a key change.

THE BAND

Six players who follow every chord.

Change a chord and the whole band follows, at once. Try a different chord under a line and hear it straight away: songwriting by ear, with a band behind you.

Six players

Drums, percussion, bass, guitar, piano and strings, each on its own channel with its own sound.

Follows every chord

A note keeps its job in the chord: the root stays the root, the third stays the third. Voicings keep their shape, each player stays in its range, and the drums never change.

Plays your parts, as written

Nothing is invented. The band plays the parts of the preset you load, or the parts you draw yourself, at their exact times, lengths and velocities.

Sound banks and presets

A sound bank holds the band’s sounds and its presets. Load a preset for a whole band, save your own, and search across banks.

A sound for every player

Choose each player’s sound from the bank: a sampled instrument or a synth patch. Each drum and percussion piece has its own sound too.

Track Control

Knobs for each player, such as tone, body, attack, width, room, distance, register and voicing. Each drum piece has its own tune, decay, pan and volume.

ARRANGE THE SONG

Give your song its shape.

A gentle intro, a verse that sits back, a chorus that lifts and an ending that lands. Grooves give each part of the song its own feel.

Grooves for every part

Three intros, four main grooves, a break and three endings, each from one to eight bars. Every main groove has a fill of its own.

Band blocks

Draw blocks on the Arranger lane to say where the band plays and which groove it plays there. Move, trim, mute and rename them like clips.

Choose who plays

Each block chooses its players: drop the drums for a quiet verse, bring the strings in for the last chorus.

Automatic fills

When one main groove runs into another, the band plays the fill into the new one. Switch it off when you want to place every fill yourself.

Your own fills

Place a fill from the bank at any bar, or edit, duplicate and rename fills to make your own. Your changes stay with the song.

Audition on its own

Play the band’s patterns on their own loop while you shape them, without starting the song.

FROM SKETCH TO SONG

From song idea to finished demo.

When the idea is ready to grow, nothing has to be started again. The Arranger lives inside a complete studio, so your sketch becomes the song.

Record over the band

Arm a track and sing or play along. Your takes, the band and the chords all play from the same timeline.

One chord track for the studio

The chart’s chords are the song’s chords: the key-aware effects, the harmonies of Voice Factory and Nimi all read them.

Extract Band to MIDI

Turn the band into ordinary MIDI tracks, one per player and one clip per block, then load any instrument you own. One step, and the Arranger stays.

Export the band as MIDI

Write the band’s whole arrangement to a MIDI file, ready for another studio or a live rig.

Print the lead sheet

Print the chart with its chords and lyrics, or save it as a PDF for the band and the singer.

Import a chart

Bring in a typed chord chart, a ChordPro file or a MIDI file. Export the chart as ChordPro text too.

Questions

Do I need to know music production?
No. Type your chords, write your words, pick a feel and press play. There are no instruments to load and nothing to connect. When you want to go further, the whole studio is there.
I write lyrics, not chords. Can I still use it?
Yes. Your words sit under the bars, and the chord picker shows the chords that belong to your key, so you can try them one by one and hear the band play each one under your lines.
Do I need a MIDI keyboard or an instrument?
No. You type or pick the chords, and the band plays them. If you do play, record your guitar, piano or voice over the band.
Does the Arranger make up the parts for me?
No. The band plays the parts of the preset you load, or the parts you draw yourself, exactly as written. Only the pitch of each note moves, to fit the chord it plays under.
Can I bring in a song I already wrote?
Yes. Import a typed chord chart, a ChordPro file or a MIDI file, and the Arranger reads its sections, chords and lyrics.
Can I print my song for the band or the singer?
Yes. Print the lead sheet with its chords and lyrics, or save it as a PDF.
Which editions include the Arranger?
Every edition. The Free edition has three band players and up to four sections, Home has the full band and unlimited sections, and Studio adds Extract Band to MIDI. For the first 60 days every edition has everything.

Write your next song with a band behind you.
