CORE TECHNOLOGY 06 · AUDIO ENGINE

Built never to stop the music.

Everything you hear in Harmonic Pro Studio runs on our own audio engine, written from the ground up for professional work. It keeps playing when a plugin fails, keeps every track in time, routes anything anywhere and renders your song faster than it plays.

STABLE BY DESIGN

Your song keeps playing.

A session should never die halfway through a take. The engine is built so that nothing it does gets in the way of the sound.

Steady playback

The engine is written so that its own work never interrupts the audio, so you can keep editing while the song plays.

Plugins can’t crash your song

A plugin that fails is set aside, the song keeps going, and you choose whether to reload it. From then on it runs apart from the rest.

Safe plugin scanning

New plugins are tested on their own before they load, so one bad plugin can’t stop the studio from starting.

Old plugins too

VST2 and VST3 on Windows and macOS, and on Windows even old 32-bit plugins, through the built-in bridge.

Automatic delay compensation

Every plugin’s delay is made up for, so every track stays in time whatever is on it.

A safety ceiling

A limiter on the main output, on by default, so a mistake never reaches your speakers at full scale.

ROUTING

Send anything anywhere.

The mixer is built on a routing system, not a fixed chain, so the signal can go wherever your music needs it.

Buses and sends

Group tracks into buses and feed effects with sends, before or after the fader.

Track to track

Route a track into another track and process the mix of both through its effects.

Sidechains

Key any effect from any track, before or after its fader, for ducking, gating and pumping.

Cue mixes

Up to four separate headphone mixes, each on its own outputs of your interface.

VCAs and link groups

Move many faders with one, or link tracks so a change on one moves them all.

Track delay and direct outs

Shift a track earlier or later to the millisecond, and send it straight to an output.

RECORDING AND TIME

Record the take. Keep the timing.

Low-latency recording, a tempo map and sync, so the studio fits the way you work.

Low latency

ASIO and WASAPI on Windows, Core Audio on macOS, for recording and playing through plugins in real time.

Punch and loop recording

Punch in on a part, or loop a section and keep every pass as a take on its own lane.

Count-in

A count-in before the take, so you come in on the beat.

Tempo and meter changes

A tempo map and time signature changes, with clips that stay on their bars when the tempo moves.

Musical or linear time

Choose for each track whether its clips follow the bars or stay at their time.

Sync

Sends MIDI Time Code and MIDI Clock, and follows incoming MIDI Time Code.

MIX AND DELIVER

From the mix to the master file.

Everything you need to finish a song and hand it over, measured the way streaming services measure it.

Automation

Read, Write, Touch and Latch, with curves, on any control of any track or effect.

Mix scenes

Save the whole console as a scene and bring it back in one step.

Loudness metering

LUFS loudness and true peak for every track and the master.

Freeze

Freeze a heavy track to audio to save power, and unfreeze it to keep editing.

Fast exports

Renders faster than real time to WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, AAC or OGG, up to 192 kHz, two formats at once.

Loudness targets

Export to a loudness target with a true-peak ceiling, as one mix, stems or a delivery pack.

LIGHT ON YOUR COMPUTER

More music from the same machine.

Power goes to the sound, not to the screen or to work that has already been done.

  • Rendered time stretch

Stretched clips play from a file made in the background: the same sound for a fraction of the power.

  • A GPU-drawn screen

The timeline, piano roll and meters are drawn by your graphics card, smooth and off the audio’s back.

  • Nothing drawn for nothing

When nothing moves on the screen, nothing is redrawn.

  • Freeze when you need it

Turn a heavy instrument into audio, and bring it back whenever you like.

Questions

Will it work with my audio interface?
Yes. On Windows it uses ASIO or WASAPI, and on macOS Core Audio, so any interface with a driver for your computer works, with low latency on a good driver.
What happens if a plugin crashes?
Your song keeps going. The plugin is set aside, you get the choice to reload it, and from then on it runs apart from the rest of the studio so it can’t do it again.
Do I have to fix plugin latency myself?
No. Delay compensation is automatic: every track stays in time, whatever plugins are on it. You can still nudge a track earlier or later by hand.
Which formats can I export?
WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, AAC and OGG, at up to 192 kHz, two formats at once if you like, with dither and a loudness target with a true-peak ceiling.
Can it sync with other gear?
Yes. It sends MIDI Time Code and MIDI Clock, and it can follow incoming MIDI Time Code.
