2.2 The Main Window
The main window of Harmonic Pro Studio and its seven sections, and what you can do in it: write, record, edit, mix and finish a song.
When you create or open a song in the Project Hub, it opens in the main window. Everything you do on a song happens in this one window, from the first chord to the finished mix.
2.2.1 What you can do with Harmonic Pro Studio
| Write | Type your chords and sections, add your words, and the Arranger’s band plays them in your key and at your tempo. |
|---|---|
| Record | Record audio from a microphone or guitar, and MIDI from a keyboard, over the band or on your own. Every take is kept. |
| Play | Use the built-in instruments (pianos, synths and drums) or your own. |
| Edit | Cut, move and repeat clips on the timeline; write and edit notes in the piano roll; repair and retune recordings in the Audio Editor; and fit any audio to your tempo with time stretch. |
| Mix | Balance your tracks in the mixer with buses and sends, add effects (many of them follow your song’s key and chords) and draw changes over time with automation. |
| Bring your plugins | Load the VST2 and VST3 plugins you already own. On Windows, older 32-bit ones load too. |
| Finish | Export your song as a mix in WAV or MP3, or as stems and a full delivery pack for a label, a mastering engineer or a sync library. |
| Ask Nimi | With the optional Nimi plan, say what you hear in your own words and Nimi works the studio for you, and makes new sounds for your song. See Nimi. |
Some features depend on your edition. See Editions and the 60 days.
2.2.2 The sections of the main window
The main window has seven sections, numbered in the picture above:
| Section | What it is for | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Title bar and menus | The song’s name (a • in front of it means unsaved changes), the menus, the hint bar, and ⚙ to open Settings. |
| 2 | Top bar | Undo and redo, the timeline buttons and edit tools, the transport (play, stop, record), the clock, the tempo, the time signature, the key, and the button that opens the Mixer. |
| 3 | INFO line | The values of the selected clip, so you can type them exactly. |
| 4 | Media Browser | Your files, your plugins and presets, ready to drag into the song, and the Inspector with the selected track’s settings. |
| 5 | TRACKS | Every track in the song, with the MASTER on top: solo, mute, monitor, its instrument or output, volume and pan. |
| 6 | Timeline | Your song from left to right: the markers, the bars, your clips, and the CHORD and BLOCK lanes at the bottom. |
| 7 | Lower zone | Three tabs that work with what you select above: EFFECTS, AUTOMATION and MIXER. |
No tooltips. Rest the mouse on any button, knob or field, and the hint bar in the menu bar tells you what it is and what it does.
Each section has a lot more in it. Each one is explained on its own page in this chapter.
