3.6 Locations
Where everything you save goes. The program folder is only ever read — presets, kits, track presets, themes and (by default) your projects and libraries live in one User folder outside it.
3.6.1 User folder
The folder, with Change…, Open and
Use default (Documents\Harmonic Pro). Under it: whether
it is the Default or Your choice, and a warning when it sits inside
OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive (files there can be online-only or locked
while they sync).
Not found (in red) means the folder you chose is not there — a drive unplugged, a share offline. Every save is refused and says so; nothing is saved anywhere else, and the folder is never re-created empty. Plug the drive back in, or pick another folder.
Change… checks the new folder first: a folder inside the program, one that cannot be written or is not there is refused, and the old one stays. If the old folder holds files you are asked what to do with them:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Move my files there | asks once more, then copies every file — each is written, read back and compared — and only when every file has arrived deletes the originals. A file you changed during the move is kept in the old folder and named. |
| Copy them there | the same verified copy; the originals stay. |
| Just use the new folder | nothing is copied. |
A name that is already taken in the new folder gets " (2)" — nothing is ever overwritten. Not enough free space on the new drive is refused before a byte is copied. Stop (or a failed copy) ends the run: the copies made stay in the new folder, nothing is deleted, and the User folder stays the old one. After a Move, Recent projects point to the new folder, and a project that used a file from the old folder finds it in the new one. A Move is refused while the open project lives in the folder — close it first, or copy.
Inside it lists what the folder holds, part by part, with a count;
double-click a part to open its folder. Advance EQ and
Harmonic Space presets (Presets\Advance EQ,
Presets\Harmonic Space) and Track presets with their FX
Chains (Track Presets) live here, and are listed even before your first
save. A part that has not moved in yet (Drum Module kits move in with a later update) says where it still is — nothing is hidden.
The first start after an update copies each part's old saves in once: every file is read back and compared, the originals stay where they were, and a name that is taken gets " (2)" (a track preset is renamed whole, never a file inside it). If a part's old folder is not there — a drive unplugged — that part shows not copied in yet here with the folder its presets are still in, and they come in at the next start once it is back. A User folder you choose later with Just use starts empty: old presets are never copied in again.
Plug-ins have no folder setting of their own: Advance EQ's preset menu ends with Open presets folder, and Harmonic Space's USER tab shows User folder › Harmonic Space with Change…, which opens this page.
3.6.2 Projects
New projects in — where the Project Hub creates new projects; by
default <User folder>\Projects (Change…, or
Use default). Existing projects stay where they are. On a computer
that already had Documents\Harmonic Studio Projects, that folder is kept
as your choice.
3.6.3 Libraries
Sound Library and Sound Banks live inside the User
folder, or are kept elsewhere — a sample drive, say.
Keep elsewhere… and Use the User folder ask Move / Copy /
Just use, the same way. A library that was already in
Documents\Harmonic Studio is kept there as "elsewhere" — gigabytes are
never copied behind your back.
3.6.4 Browser places
The folders the media browser shows as chips. Add…, Rename… (the name shown on the chip) and Remove. Removing a place never touches the files in it; if the browser was showing it, it moves to the first place left.
3.6.5 Program
Factory content — the program folder, read-only. App data — the app's own state (crash recovery, window positions, the assistants' access key and log), never your files.
An assistant can read all of this and change the User folder with Copy or Just use — never Move: an assistant does not delete your files.
